Personal
I chose Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery as a specialty not because it is the specialty with the longest name (although that helps), but because it is the field of medicine with the widest breadth of ailments and treatments. The first physician I shadowed when I was a college student was a Nasal & Sinus specialist, and the first patient I saw him treat was a patient with Graves’ disease who needed endoscopic orbital decompression surgery. The first surgery I shadowed was a facial nerve reanimation surgery for a patient with facial paralysis. I would have never guessed at the time that 11 years later I would be performing both of those surgeries on the same day!
I feel grateful to have had the opportunities to be in this wonderful field. I can improve a patient’s quality of life with minimally invasive endoscopic surgical techniques or allergy shots, perform an open head & neck cancer removal to cure a patient’s cancer, and help a patient feel more confident about themselves by doing a cosmetic rhinoplasty, all in the same week. But no matter the variety, I love the delicate and precise nature that is required in all head & neck surgery.
Although I spent most of my life on the east coast, it has always been a dream of mine to move to a warmer and sunnier climate. After moving here from New Jersey, I am happy to call Tucson my new home. I love the 300+ days of sunshine and the ability to go hiking and swimming year-round. I also enjoy playing soccer, swimming, and spending time with my daughter.
