What’s going on behind the scenes?
Allergies can emerge in young children starting age 4 or may begin in adulthood. Your immune system is responsible for defending the body against bacteria and viruses. In some cases, your immune system will defend against substances that typically don’t pose a threat to the human body. These substances are known as allergens, and when your body reacts to them, it causes an allergic reaction. This overreaction causes release of histamine and other inflammatory chemicals leading to symptoms.
How Tucson ENT can help
The physicians of Tucson Ear, Nose, and Throat have advanced training and certification in diagnosing and treating allergy. Oftentimes, we can control and eliminate symptoms with oral tablets and nasal sprays. Daily saline flushes can help reduce the symptoms if performed consistently. We can identify inhaled allergens like pollen from weeds/grasses/trees, animal dander, molds, dust mites that may be causing symptoms with proper testing. Once your allergy-causing material(s) are identified, then immunotherapy (repeated shots, drops or tablets) can be prescribed to teach the immune system to stop overreacting. This is a slow, but effective, process to treat those who do to not respond to typical medical therapy. You can learn more about how we treat allergies on our allergy page .
