Ringing or Tinnitus

What are the symptoms?
  • Ringing/buzzing
  • Hissing/humming
  • Ocean sound
  • Cicada or crickets chirping
What’s going on behind the scenes?
Tinnitus is normal for most individuals, especially if it is intermittent and lasts seconds to a few minutes. However, if this becomes bothersome, then it is often a symptom of hearing loss and a thorough ENT examination and audiology evaluation are important. Tinnitus is difficult to treat because the exact cause is unknown.
How Tucson ENT can help
We look for common, reversible causes of hearing loss like an infection, fluid in the ears, and wax build up. The tinnitus usually reduces or stops once the problem is fixed. If the hearing is otherwise significantly impaired, then hearing aids may be prescribed to reduce the amount of tinnitus.
