Ear Pain

What are the symptoms?
  • Intermittent, stabbing ear pain
  • Constant throbbing pain
  • Pain that can wake you up from sleep
What’s going on behind the scenes?
Some conditions that cause ear pain include eustachian tube dysfunction (see above), middle or outer ear infections. Ear pain can also be caused by a condition in a different part of the body that shares common nerve pathways - also called referred ear pain. Jaw (Temporomandibular) and throat issues also commonly result in referred ear pain.
How Tucson ENT can help
Ear infections causing pain can easily be diagnosed with an examination and test in the office. Progressive ear pain lasting more than 2-3 weeks requires a thorough ear, nose, throat examination. We utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques, including audiology testing, endoscopy, and imaging to help diagnose ear pain.
