Cochlear Implants

How do I know I need a Cochlear Implant?
  • Hearing loss
  • The inability to hear speech, even with a hearing aid
What’s going on behind the scenes?
While hearing aids provide benefit to a majority of people, when one’s hearing organ (cochlea) is too far impaired, hearing aids are no longer helpful. The implant consists of an external portion that sits behind the ear and a second portion that is surgically placed under the skin.
How Tucson ENT can help:
In cases some where you suspect cochlear damage, we can run audiometric testing to evaluate candidacy for cochlear implantation. This is a surgery where an electrode is inserted into the cochlea to directly stimulate the hearing nerve. Cochlear implantation can be a life-changing surgery for those who have nonfunctioning hearing.
